Artificial intelligence in breast cancer screening | Cancer Screening, Diagnosis and Care

The European guidelines on breast cancer screening and diagnosis provide evidence-based recommendations and good practice statements intended to optimise patient care.

Each guideline recommendation is based on the best available body of evidence obtained through systematic reviews. For each question, the systematic review team seeks evidence related to all people-important outcomes.

The research protocols describe the planned methods of the systematic review, including: question and objectives, eligibility criteria, databases to be searched, proposed search strategy, methodology for data extraction and analysis.

The EC's Joint Research Centre has launched a call for feedback from stakeholders on the draft protocol for conducting the systematic review informing the recommendations on artificial intelligence (AI) in breast cancer screening.

Please note that the below file contains three protocols outlining the following modalities of artificial intelligence in breast cancer screening:

AI as support in reading mammograms
AI replacing one of the readers and
AI as a triage.

Please note that the JRC will not provide individual responses. The assessed comments will be further evaluated by the working group and systematic review team for consideration when defining the final outputs, following the methodological framework for guideline development.
